That Hockey

Brand Identity · Apparel 2026

An apparel brand for the rink rats — the grinders, the late-night skaters, the ones who know hockey is more than a game.

01

Why it exists

That Hockey started in the locker room. I built it for the culture around the game — the bench, the boards, the breakaway, the stories that outlast the score.

The opportunity was a hockey apparel brand that feels earned, like a beat-up practice jersey, instead of generic team merch you'd find in a pro shop.

02

What I set out to prove

I built this to explore a nostalgic, heritage-driven apparel brand rooted in a specific subculture. The test was capturing locker-room culture in an identity that feels lived-in and authentic — a brand for people inside the game, not a souvenir stand.

03

What I built

This is a full build: name, voice, identity, and a store designed around a tight line of tees, hoodies, and sweatshirts. Everything is photographed and merchandised to hang together as one drop, with the 'Hockey Is Life Club' idea running through it.

Design decisions

I built the identity around the culture itself — 'Hockey Is Life Club,' crossed sticks, and a worn, heritage feel that reads like a patch you'd earn instead of buy.

Product photography kept the line clean and consistent, while lifestyle shots at the rink ground the brand in the setting it comes from. The tone stays plainspoken — the bench, the boards, the breakaway — so it feels like it came out of the locker room, not a boardroom.

05

What this build demonstrates

This build demonstrates I can drop into a subculture, learn its language, and build a brand that feels native to it. The goal was a believable hockey label with a real point of view — proof I can make a brand feel like it belongs to the people it's for.
